How to Import Contacts Using a CSV File

Uploading a CSV file enables you to bring your existing CRM contacts into Flowcode. Once imported, those contacts are ready to be matched against real-world engagement and activated as FlowIDs through an activation campaign. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1: Export and Upload Your File

Export your contacts from your CRM platform as a CSV file, then upload it by clicking the upload area or dragging and dropping the file in.

Step 2: Identify and Map Your Columns

Once your file is uploaded, you'll need to map each column to a contact property:

  1. Select your primary identifier column to map to your workspace’s current primary identifier.

  2. Deselect any columns you don't want to import.

  3. Map remaining columns to their corresponding contact properties.

💡 Tip: For faster mapping, name your column headers to match existing contact property names before uploading, including the primary identifier. When there's an exact match, columns will be mapped automatically.

Step 3: Create New Contact Properties (if needed)

If your file includes columns that don't match any existing contact properties, click the contact property field for that column and select "Create new" to define it on the spot.

Step 4: Create a Static Audience (optional)

If you'd like to group these contacts into an audience, check the "Create static audience" checkbox before importing. This will create an audience populated with the contacts from this upload.

Step 5: Complete the Import

Once all selected columns are mapped to a contact property, click Import to bring your contacts into Flowcode.

⏳ Imports may take a few minutes to process. You'll receive an email notification when complete, including a status summary of the import results.

⚠️ Error: Primary identifier column contains empty rows. Because the primary identifier is how Flowcode recognizes and distinguishes each contact, every row in that column must have a value. Before uploading, review your CSV and fill in or remove any rows where the primary identifier is missing.
